Gerty Cori
She was the first woman in history awarded with Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, in 1947 “for the discovery of the enzymatic pathways of glycogenolysis and glycolysis”, which is a core metabolic route involved in carbohydrate degradation. This central route of the carbohydrate metabolism was named after her as “The Cori Cycle”, it has become the fundamental pathway to understand how cells generate, recycle and store energy.
