Emmanuelle Charpentier
2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry “for the development of a method for genome editing”. She contributed to the discovery of the CRISPR/Cas9 technology. Using this technology, researchers can change the DNA of animals, plants and microorganisms with extremely high precision. This technology has had a revolutionary impact on the life sciences as a tool for rewriting the code of life. I had the opportunity to meet her in 2016 in a workshop at EMBL Heidelberg and listen to one of her talks. It was fascinating and inspiring to hear in her own words the experience of discovering the CRISPR/Cas9 technology.
